Sandra Folk is founder and president of The Language Lab, an organization specializing in improving and refining the communication skills of business executives and employees. Since 2004 Dr. Folk has dedicated her efforts to incorporating practice over time to a suite of online courses, as well as personal coaching and corporate seminars.

As an innovator in online learning, the Language Lab gives both native English speakers and second language learners the training to write and present targeted effective and efficient communication. The Language Lab’s clients come from a cross section of industries, both national and international, including government, commercial real estate, finance, construction, investment, pension and trust funds, accounting.

Dr. Folk’s background as an educator enhances her expertise and knowledge of successful business communications. An award-winning university lecturer, she also teaches at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto.

As an educational consultant, Dr. Folk has advised school boards, directors and superintendents across North America, and worked with public education media organizations such as TV Ontario. Additionally, she has designed curriculum and assessment materials for the Ontario Ministry of Education.

A noted writer, Dr. Folk has authored a number of educational textbooks, and her work is published online and in print. Publications include Workplace Today, Canadian Government Executive, HR Professional Magazine, and Business Executive Magazine. As well, her unique approach to improving written communication in the workplace has been profiled in the Financial Post, the Toronto Sun, The Calgary Herald and Canadian Business.

Dr. Folk holds a Doctorate of Education (1999) and Master of Education (1988) from the University of Toronto. She blogs about business writing and presentation skills at The Language Lab,, and is a regular contributor to the Financial Post Careers section.
